MY STORY
Imagine waking up every morning feeling like you can take on the world. How great does that feel? In 2015, I opened the doors to my practice to patients in the greater Roodepoort area — offering them a wide range of counseling and psychological services to guide them through life’s challenges and most trying times.
Life can get difficult, and sometimes a little help from a professional Counselling Professional can make things better. I care about your well-being and provide you all the tools you need in order to seize the day and learn how to tackle even the most traumatic circumstances.
Counselling Support is a licensed professional who offers empathetic and compassionate counselling services to clients in the West Rand area. Our focus is on trauma-informed therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).
Counselling Support aims to empower our clients through healing past traumas, learning new skills for coping with challenging emotional states, and regaining control of their lives. I’ve been working as a counselor for nearly 30 years, and in that time I’ve seen many people turn their life around.
It’s my pleasure to be part of this process.
A BIT ABOUT COUNSELING
Guiding You On the Path of Self-Healing
Social work and psychology is a dynamic profession that promotes social change, problem-solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance well-being. These professionals intervene at the points where people interact with their environments.
Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to their practice. This profession is practiced worldwide in a variety of settings across all sectors of society and in close collaboration with other sectors such as education, development, health, law and business. Social Workers also engage in private practice.
According to the American Psychological Association, “Psychologists and social workers help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives.” Through the use of various psychotherapy methods and collaborative treatment measures, my patients develop life-changing habits to help them cope with any of life’s various obstacles. My therapy sessions are designed to dissect personal issues and provide patients with effective tools to help them see the glass half full instead of half empty.

Comprehensive Answers
I AM FEELING DEPRESSED. WHAT COULD HELP ME FEEL BETTER?
Educating yourself on depression and the different ways to cope can help a lot. Self-care is really important, so find out what you are good at doing (and not so good at) and focus on those things. You might want to try talking to someone for support, putting together a treatment plan, and practicing some relaxation techniques like listening to music, taking a bath with aromatherapy oils, or reading something relaxing.
IS THERE A TIME LIMIT ON THE COUNSELLING?
Yes, any professional counselling is time-limited. It's important that you set goals and work towards achieving them with a Counselor.
I'VE HAD A BIG ARGUMENT WITH MY PARTNER, SHOULD I SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP?
The good news is that Counselling Support exists to help you. There are many reasons why people might seek counselling, these include: feeling tired, having difficulty sleeping, or even missing work or school as a result of a mental health issue. Talking with a counselor can provide relief and reassurance which will reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, build coping skills and increase self-confidence, among other benefits. There’s no need to suffer in silence!
DO YOU USE FREUDIAN OR JUNGIAN ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES?
I use a variety of different approaches in my work, so that I can better understand the emotional and physical needs of each patient. This includes Freudian and Jungian analysis techniques.
DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE RATES?
I am happy to work with my clients on a sliding scale. Just let me know what you think your weekly or monthly budget is, and I'll be sure to offer you the best rates for service.
HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?
The length of the counselling session will depend on a lot of factors, including what you are struggling with and the challenges involved. The average session time for individual psychotherapy is 45-60 minutes.
I'M FEELING ANXIOUS, WHAT CAN I DO?
We offer a range of services to help you through challenging moments. We provide self-care strategies and mindfulness techniques that can be followed when feeling overwhelmed, as well as in-depth therapy conversations on your specific needs that may be required by you or your loved one or family member for support.
HOW DO I START WITH COUNSELLING?
Although people can self-diagnose and decide on their own what type of professional they want to see, it helps if you make an appointment with a professional at the beginning. This way you can be sure that they are competent in the field you are looking for. It is not always easy to get started with counselling but with a consultation first, it will open up all the possibilities.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COUNSELLING AND THERAPY?
Counselling is more of a one-on-one form of therapy, and it is usually focused on the client’s process and how they can deal with their challenges in the present. Therapy has a wider focus, often including the client’s family and their interactions with the wider environment.
